Southern Jaunt IV - Davao Crocodile Park

The Davao Crocodile Park is another famous attraction in Davao City. As the name implies, crocs are the main attractions in this place. Nonetheless, although named after the famous reptile, Davao Crocodile Park is not only about crocodiles. It also serves as a wildlife sanctuary. Among the other animals in the park include, tigers, turtles, pythons, iguanas, eagles, hornbills, and ostriches. There even have a five-legged cow.

If there is a ruler in this crocs’ haven, that would be Pangil. Pangil, the biggest crocodile in the Park was caught somewhere in Mindanao after causing havoc to locals due to his supposed man-eating tendencies.

What a beast...

In this realm of Crocs, crocodiles are classified and kept in separate cages. The yearlings (baby crocs) are kept together in one cage and the same goes with the juveniles (teens). On the other hand, the breeding pen is designed to simulate the environment in the wild as there are trees as well as a swamp inside the cages where Poppa and Momma Crocs cool themselves from the heat of the sun.

Another very interesting feature of the DCP is the animal show where trained animals awe the audience with their antics and special abilities. There is also the tightrope walking, a highwire stunt where the performer dances and crosses a rope that is suspended atop a pen full of lurking crocodiles. Other shows in DCP include the crocodile dancing and the Pangil encounter.

  1. I like the park because they really help the wild animals/the endangered one. But i like the most is the cow. I wish i could visit there someday.
