City Hall - HCMC

On the second day of our stay in Vietnam, we decided to stay within and explore the confines of HCMC so as to see its museums and other famous landmarks. But first, we got to visit a Church on the other side of the park and say our prayers.

Ho Chi Minh City Hall

Our first stop is the Ho Chi Minh City Hall. Actually, the taxi that we hailed dropped us on a side-street next to the main avenue where City Hall is located. He seems to be on a hurry, so we no longer made fuss about it. Hence, we just started our own-planned walking tour of HCMC earlier than expected.

Ho Chi Minh

The City Hall is a French colonial inspired edifice constructed in the early 1900’s. It was formerly called Hotel de Ville de Saigon as its architecture was inspired by the Hotel de Ville in Paris. However, it has been called the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Building since 1975.

Also, there is a statue of Vietnam’s great hero, Ho Chi Minh, at the park located just in front of the building. Though the place is not open to the public, we still felt it very worth the while to just have a glimpse of it. However, it is claimed that the building becomes more impressive at night when it is all it up.

Really Impressive
