CamSur II - Going to Caramoan

We woke up early to prepare ourselves for the arduous trip to Caramoan. Lyn, my Hunny’s friend way back from the time when she was assigned in Bicol picked us up at around 6:00AM. We then went to the Terminal in front of SM City to ride a van bound for Sabang Port in the town of San Jose. Although the van is your usual cramped –up style, four passengers each row, it has more or less seen better days. The fare from Naga City to Sabang is P90.00 per person.

Foggy Morning

The towns that we passed by include Pili, Ocampo, Tigaon, Goa, and San Jose. The roads are well-paved. We have not passed through a rough road during the trip. It took us 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach Sabang Port, although the trip can easily be made a 1 hour drive.

Oh no...limited visibility

At Sabang, we were met by porters who insist on carrying our bags. It was only later that we discovered that due to absence of an actual port, passengers will choose to either get wet and wade through waist deep of water or have a porter literally carry them into the boat. Surprisingly, I was carried by one person, which means he must be super strong. Harharhar.

Passengers are cramped-up in rows of four. So it will be another 2 hours of uncomfortable ride to Guijalo Port in Caramoan. Imagine, it was raining at that time so we had to endure a boring ride and were also soaking wet as we were seated near the engine and the "driver’s raised seat". Luckily some passengers were kind enough to lend Hunny and Ais some plastic (tarapal) to be used as cover from the rain. By the way, the fare from Sabang to Guijalo is P120.00 per person.

At Guijalo Port, tricycles and jeepneys are available to take you to the Centro (Town Proper) where most accommodations are located or to Paniman Beach, the jump-off point to the famous islands and beaches of Caramoan.

Arriving at Guijalo Port

We decided to hire a jeepney to Paniman for P400.00 since we no longer wanted to travel 30 minutes when we go island hopping. This is already expensive but there were only four of us, so it will cost you less if you have a bigger group. Moreover, some say that the usual fare to the Sentro is just P10.00 per person, though I really did not ask the tricycle drivers around about it. Before going to Paniman, we had lunch at the Lutong Bahay, one of the famous eateries in Centro. Although the food is ok for us hungry ones, it is relatively expensive for the type of food it offers.

At Paniman, we first inquired if there still were available accommodations at Breeze and Waves Resort. We were informed that the resort is fully-booked at that time. Instead, they were offering us a room inside their house for P1500.00, which we declined. So we had to take other options.

Eventually, we chose to stay at the Corral's Lodging House for an airconditioned room for P1200.00 per day. The great thing is we had the entire house for ourselves. Besides, we had a very able gofer in the person of Francis. In fact, Francis was a very helpful throughout our stay in Caramoan.

Corral's Lodging House is the ancestral house of the family of Mang Boyet Corral who lives at a house located at the back. It is located at Phase 2 in Barangay Paniman, just the second street from the Beach. Mang Boyet, being a high school teacher in Guijalo, is very helpful and accommodating. He made it sure that our needs are met.

Since it was still raining, our intended short rest turned into a marathon sleeping session. It was already dark when we woke up. Good thing we already pre-ordered our dinner at Island Hoppers' RestoBar, the favorite hangout of travelers in Paniman. Ate Angge, the owner of Island Hoppers' told us that the crew of different Survivors spend their days-off at her bar. Another great thing about Island Hoppers' RestoBar is that you can pre-order your food and ask Ate Angge what to prepare for your meal. Just don't forget to tell her your preferred time to eat so as to give her time to prepare the same.

Hello Friends!

For just P110.00 per person, we got to eat fried chicken, fish, vegetables, bananas, pansit, bulalo and of course, unlimited rice. In short, we ate a very complete meal, which was all worth it because the food is really delicious. After such hearty meal, we then spent the rest of the night preparing for our planned island hopping.
